Cascais, on the west coast of Portugal, at the extreme point of Continental Europe, is a water playground area par excellence. On a 30 km long coastline, there are several beaches to choose from, some with wilder features and surrounded by a beautiful landscape of dunes and mountains, others closer to the town center and accessible on foot. 5th - The Historic Center
5 minutes from the house, restaurants, bars, shops and traditional market, very present in the village; there is the connection to the sea, the roots of a land (also) of fishermen and the bay from which boats leave every day for the high seas; and then there are the streets and alleys of the center, the fortress, museums and gardens. The closest is the oldest (1936) Estoril golf club which offers a beautiful and technically challenging round any day of the year. And still about 15 minutes away, towards Sintra, there is also the Trent Jones-designed Penha Longa Golf, nestled in the mountains with a cooler climate for the hottest days.
7th - Museum District
Few destinations can boast an exclusive museum district. Cascais is proud - and with good reason. It currently has 16 museums, two urban parks and, even better news, they can all be visited on foot. The core includes old family houses turned into museums, palaces that belonged to royalty, buildings designed by Pritzker awards and a cultural center with constantly changing exhibitions. It will be difficult to choose where to start.
8th - Mobility
It is true that Cascais is a large municipality, and you can chose the car, train or bicycle to reach some distant points to fully explore the magic also in the quantity - and quality - of alternatives for a few hours or a day out. But much of what there is to explore can be done with both feet on the ground. Especially when it comes to the center of the village, where there are some beaches, gardens, many restaurants, exclusive shops, museums and other attractions. Locals do it, there's no reason to be different.
