Located on the right-hand side of the Arno river, the property was originally a mill dating back to early medieval times. It was built by the monks of the Abbey of Monte Scalari, who built a chain of watermills by the side of the river.
The foundations, made from large stone arches positioned in the river, allow the building to rise directly above the water.

There are two ways to access the property, the main one being via a cypress-lined avenue linked to the main road. The river allows a constant water supply, which thanks to a hydraulic pump system, guarantees irrigation even in the hottest times of the year.
