The Convent of São Saturnino, dating from the 14th century, is a treasure located in a valley in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, a nature reserve, next to the sea. Restored at the beginning of this century, the Convent is an architectural complex characterized by a labyrinthine design of houses, corners, terraces, viewpoints, with gardens on several levels, always with fabulous views of the mountains and the sea. There was a place of worship to Saint Saturninus at the site, which gave rise to the name of the Convent, and there is also a hermitage in Peninha, located at the top of the Sintra mountain range, about an hour's walk away. It was rehabilitated in 1989, requiring new restoration work throughout the convent. Being at the Convent is as if time had stopped, breathing history in every corner, surrounded by greenery and with the sea on the horizon. The interior of the Convent is a constant surprise: we find countless little rooms, corners, unlikely stairs, coffered ceilings, rooms between unlikely corridors, all different, full of character and charm.
