Gunnerud Manor in very good condition, where Gustaf Fröding spent his happiest moments
On a slope by the Alster River lies Gunnerud, where Gustaf Fröding spent his childhood summers. Here, the seeds were sown for many of the poems he would later write as an adult. In the manor, the river, and the surrounding forests, he found his inspiration. There are oaks, ash trees, and lindens, several of which are nearly 300 years old. The manor house has been tastefully renovated since 2007. The old industrial environment has been carefully restored with great attention to history. The total land area is approximately 138 hectares, plus 115 hectares of leased land. The lease and rental of residential properties provide a good income. The estate is located 8 km from the main square in Karlstad and connects to the area around the university.
Gunnerud Estate is an integral part of Alsterdalen with its history and tradition, just a stone's throw from downtown Karlstad. The estate has a long history, primarily as an ironworks manor, with the ironworks established in the early 1600s and operating for about 240 years. Gunnerud became a manor in the late 1700s.
Many notable families have owned the estate. Gunnerud represents two of Värmland’s most prominent cultural historical phenomena: iron and literature.
