Description

Mews House with a Terrace in the Heart of Marylebone
Life in Marylebone

Life in Marylebone strikes a fine balance between utter tranquillity and urban convenience.

Take a stroll down Marylebone High Street and discover an abundance of boutique shops, luxury brands, and speciality stores. Spend a day in the village, and you’ll find everything you’ll need. Don’t forget, lunch or dinner whilst you’re out too. The area offers a fantastic selection of dining options, from casual cafés to world-class restaurants, including a variety of international cuisines.

If you’re not in need of retail therapy, you’ll discover an array of museums, galleries and performance spaces in and in close proximity to Marylebone, upholding its reputation as an essential cultural hub within the city. Marylebone is home to excellent healthcare providers. Furthermore, the globally renowned Regents Park is within walking distance, plus smaller, quieter green spaces such as Paddington Street Gardens and Montagu Square.

Amongst the unbeatable social, cultural and culinary scene, Marylebone has a strong community vibe. It can sometimes feel more like a village than a central London district with frequent farmers' markets, community events, and local festivals contributing to this impression.

A Charming Home

Marylebone is awash with well-preserved architecture and quietly welcoming streets dotted with charming homes. One such home is Number One Devonshire Close.

A quaint, cobbled road reminiscent of a much more suburban location, Devonshire Close is home to residents and a handful of local businesses. Only a stone's throw from a local shop providing fresh croissants and orange juice, it can feel like a peaceful holiday home nestled in a thriving city.

A Statement Entrance

You’ll fall in love with Number One immediately for its abundance of greenery outside the home. It isn’t alone, the neighbours have created a similar style, and it oozes kerb appeal along the road. Step inside and discover a beautiful balance of heritage and homeliness that’s unique to find in the heart of London.

The vestibule is intricately styled with panelling and cornicing indicative of the period the home was built - a beautiful entrance into the home.

Characterful and Cosy

Refurbished in 2000, and maintained well since then, the property benefits from a new boiler system and double-glazed windows, which create a wonderfully, cosy home.

The home is characterful and quirky yet classic and cosy. The standout features include beautiful herringbone flooring, colourful tiling, intricate coving and original fireplaces.

We love the flow of the ground floor, looping around, allowing both connection and privacy between the kitchen and living-cum-dining room.

Come Into The Kitchen

The kitchen is modelled in a classic style with cream cupboard doors, marble countertops and ocean-blue tiling. A keen chef will appreciate the high-quality, reliable brands such as Miele, Kitchen Aid and Samsung, plus the modern induction hob, conveniently located main sockets and the abundance of worktop space for food preparation.

The kitchen has been thoughtfully constructed to utilise the full space of the room creating ample storage from below the oven, running across each wall and even, at the height of the room, close to the ceiling.

The window over the stainless steel sink fills the kitchen with natural light streaming in from the courtyard (but we’ll come to that a little later…) There’s even a utility nook tucked around the corner, away from the main kitchen area, a perfectly designed space for your washing machine and tumble dryer - and additional storage once again.

A Space For Everything

The living area is a multi-functional space for relaxation, entertaining, quiet study or a family meal together. The original Victorian fireplace in coal black is the focal point of the room and is flanked by symmetrical purpose-built radiator covers. Possibly the best-lit living room you’ll ever find, there are four generously sized windows flooding the space with sunlight. Together with the clean, white walls and the high ceilings, it feels spacious, airy and undeniably uplifting.

We love the herringbone flooring, as well as the striking original cornicing running along the perimeter and through the centre of the ceiling, both of which take us back to its Victorian heritage.

At the foot of the staircase, is a door leading to a convenient WC and basin for ground floor use. Follow the staircase to the first floor and here, you’ll discover an ample-sized double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. Further along the landing is a separate WC room and then we’ll arrive at the spacious principal suite.

Principal Suite

The main bedroom of the home benefits from two generous windows, filling the room with light and increasing the feeling of spaciousness. Cosy carpets, window blinds in a neutral shade and traditional but understated coving overhead allow this room to be fully customised to suit its new owner. The abundance of built-in storage and the benefit of an en-suite bathroom are also huge advantages for the resident.

The en-suite bathroom is an excellent use of space, featuring a bathtub with an adjustable showerhead, a wash basin with storage underneath, and even additional storage overhead! The en-suite has a sash window and also benefits from spotlights and a ceiling light. Styled with white tiling upon the walls and beautifully contrasting tiling on the flooring for a statement finish.

A Quaint Courtyard

Leading out from the living room is a wonderful, private courtyard. Styled with classic wooden decking, a covered barbecue area and a large pergola positioned to shade the seating area, you’ll find plenty of space to enjoy. This is a highly coveted feature of the home: ideal for relaxation, hosting guests or simply savouring al fresco dining. Utilise patio heaters and cosy blankets and enjoy the space in the cooler months, or soak up the summer sun during the warmer periods. This spacious courtyard is a perk and a privilege in a central London home.
