Top 10 School Districts in the UK: Kensington and Chelsea

分享:

The Kensington and Chelsea boroughs are located in west-central London and cover an area of 12.13 square kilometres with a population of 158,300, making it one of the best school districts in England. There are 27 public primary schools, 6 public secondary schools, 8 children's recreation centres and kindergartens and 3 special schools in the district. The borough's crime rate is in line with the London average. Kensington Chelsea is home to more than 30 parks and opens public spaces, with the famous Kensington Palace located in the area. There are six libraries in the district, and the government also provides home library services to residents in need.

39.3% of Kensington Chelsea residents are white British, 28.9% are other white and 2.5% are Chinese. The crime rate in the region is at the national average. According to the 2011 Census, 18.8 per cent of residents were under the age of 20, below the England and Wales and London averages; 28 per cent were between the ages of 30 and 44, well above the England and Wales average; and residents aged over 65 made up 12.1 per cent of the borough's total population, above the London average but below the England and Wales average. 52.7 per cent of the district's residents have a degree, well above the national average. With 62.8 per cent in employment and 15.4 per cent self-employed, 4.3 per cent of economically active residents are unemployed, which is below the London and England and Wales averages. 21.5 per cent of residents are employed in finance and insurance, and 16.7 per cent work in the vocational, technical and technological fields.

In the UK, it usually takes a few years for parents to prepare their children to get into good public schools. Ms. Zhang, from China, spent two years researching school options, moving and taking her son to open days at the school in order to get him into a good public school in Chelsea, Kensington, to learn more about the school. Due to the limited seats in the district, the top public school districts are shrinking every year, so Ms. Zhang called the school several times before moving to confirm whether the new address is within the district.
