An in-depth look into Quebec's education system

Quebec is the largest province in Canada in terms of area and is the only region where French is the primary language of communication. Due to the influence of the blend of English and French cultures, the province's school system is set up differently than the rest of Canada, which is very Strange. This article provides an introduction to the Quebec education system in this regard.

The Quebec education system is overseen by the Ministry of Education, Recreation and Sport. The specific administration is done by the local publicly elected French and English education boards. Children are educated from the age of five in pre-school and elementary school (grades one to six) respectively. The primary school period is subdivided into stages 1 and 2 for grades 1 and 2, stage 2 for grades 3 and 4, and stage 3 for grades 5 and 6. Secondary school education is five years and is grades 7 to 11. The age of the students is between 12 and 17 years. Secondary school is also divided into two stages, one for grades 7 to 8 and the other for grades 9 to 11. Students who complete Grade 11 receive a primary education certificate from the government.

There are nearly 100 school boards in the province of Quebec, which are responsible for the public schools in their regions. In Montreal, the largest city in Quebec, there are 6 school boards in different regions for English and French schools. The following are the three school boards that are of great interest to Chinese.

1. English Montreal School Board
English Montreal School Board (EMSB), one of Quebec's English-speaking public school boards, was established on July 1, 1998, by the Montreal region's former Christian Education Department, Catholic School Board, Jerome Le Royer Student Council and St. Croix Student Council together. EMSB includes 38 primary schools, 26 secondary schools, 11 adult and vocational education centers, totaling approximately 35,000 Students.

2. Lester B. Pearson School Board
Lester B. Pearson School Board is one of Quebec's English-speaking public school boards, the school follows a curriculum plan developed by the Quebec Ministry of Education, which encourages students to learn intellectually, physically, mentally, physically and socially. The school also offers a highly international IB program that prepares students for prestigious schools around the world. The Pearson Board of Education has 45 elementary schools, 12 secondary schools and 6 vocational training centers with a total of approximately 30,000 students.

3. Maguerite-Bourgeoys School Board
La Commission Scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys is the first French-speaking school board in Quebec, Canada, with 85 schools, including 61 elementary schools, 12 secondary schools, 2 special education schools, 6 adult vocational training centers, and 4 adult education centers, with 45,000 students and 6,500 staff.
Quebec has invested a lot of money and effort in building education. From a few months? toddlers to adult training, from practice-oriented vocational programs to university higher education that delves into academics, the province has a very high level of education. The setting is well-developed to ensure that people with different needs can find the right program for them. The levels of education, from low to high, are as follows.

Daycare
The smallest babies it accepts start at three months of age, but this is a small minority. Since maternity leave is about 10 months in Quebec, most parents send their children at 9 months of age to the Childcare. This is a great way for parents to help their children to be strong, independent, and able to eat and dress themselves.

Preschool
Enrolment ranges from 4 to 5 years of age. In the Quebec education system, pre-school education begins at age 4, but mandatory education begins in elementary school at age 6. There is no overall difference from China抯 nurseries and kindergartens.

Elementary school
It generally starts at age 6 and is divided into three stages: 1 (first and second grade) 2 (third and fourth grade) 3 (fifth and fourth grade) (6th grade). Each grade is one year in length.

Secondary school
A total of five years, known as grades 7 to 11. Of which the seventh and eighth grades are equivalent to junior high school, the ninth grade, the tenth grade. Grade 11 is called Senior high school and graduates with a Quebec government high school graduation certificate.
There are two options for post-secondary graduation:
The first is direct enrolment in a vocational training school, which allows a relatively short period of training before entering the workforce; the second is through the C蒅EP, two years of study before entering university for further study.

Vocational training
After a few hundred to over a thousand hours of vocational training, students can obtain a vocational training diploma (similar to a Chinese secondary school or vocational high school diploma); or a specialized vocational certificate (similar to a pre-service training certificate).
Particularly noteworthy in recent years is the very popular PEQ study abroad transfer program in Quebec, where students complete 1800 hours of study. After vocational training and B2 level of French, you can apply for the PEQ Quebec Immigrant Program. This is currently the most cost-effective, shortest time, and the lowest threshold of the transfer program in Canada.

CÉGEP (Collège d' enseignementgénéral et professional)
This is a unique educational setting in Quebec. Local students must complete the CÉGEPin order to enter the University and obtain a bachelor's degree. Generally, the CÉGEP lasts for two years, during which students take focused courses according to their interests. Then you apply for admission to the university. CÉGEP may seem difficult to understand, but in simple terms, it is the equivalent of making up the last year of high school and the first year of university in other provinces.
But at the same time, students can also choose to study CÉGEP for three years, which after graduation is equivalent to the level of junior college in China, and get the DEC (Diplôme d'études collégiales). Students choose this option in order to go straight to work and are generally ready to enter society after graduation.

University
Local students in Quebec only need three years of university studies to obtain a bachelor's degree, which is the biggest difference between them and foreign students. However, thanks to the CÉGEP, the duration of their education is not less than that of students from outside the province but is similar to that of students from other provinces in the country or in Canada. The total number of years is the same as the 16 years of CÉGEP. The difference is that in this education system, children are exposed to society earlier and learn more about the expertise to help students be more directional and goal-oriented when choosing a major in college and be more realistic about their future plans.

Testimonials from Rita
There have been 23 Canadian Prime Ministers, 9 of them from Quebec, including the current Prime Minister Trudeau Jr. It is evident that Quebec has a strong education system with reasonable arrangements, and its English and French bilingual training is gilding the lily. The low tuition fees of local private elementary and secondary schools are one of the benefits of education in Quebec.
