These are the Queensland border restrictions due to COVID-19 (2021)

The Queensland Government imposes new border restrictions to control the rise of COVID-19 cases. Currently, specific parts of New South Wales are declared as hotspots.

The new changes implemented from 1 am (AEST) on December 19^th, 2020 to help protect Queensland.

New border restrictions in Queensland

People who cannot come in:

• Anyone who has been in a COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days or since the hotspot was declared (Currently specific parts of New South Wales are declared as hotspots).

People who can come in:

• Queensland residents can return home by air
• New residents can relocate to Queensland from COVID-19 hotspots

However, both will have to quarantine in government-arranged accommodation at their own expenses.

If you have been in a COVID-19 hotspot within the last 14 days,

• You will have to take a test and quarantine for 14 days at a government-arranged accommodation.
• You must complete a Queensland Border Declaration Pass 3 days before coming to Queensland. Only some special cases do not need to follow this rule.
• You will have to provide evidence when entering Queensland.
• If you are in Queensland to complete an essential activity and you are exempted from quarantine, you will need to retain records of close contacts whilst you are in Queensland for two weeks after you arrive there.

Other COVID-19 Rules

• The Quarantine for International Arrivals Direction should be maintained by anyone who has been overseas in the last 14 days.
• If you drive straight to New South Wales without stopping, you can return to New South Wales without quarantining.

Entry to Queensland allowed due to Health Care Essentials

The government permits those from hotspots to enter Queensland for essential health care without an exemption, only if you cannot get enough health care in the hotspot. The essential health care includes –

1. Queensland Children’s Hospital appointment confirmed by the hospital. A written confirmation is a must.
2. An appointment at a licensed private health facility, ancillary clinic or service in Queensland, confirmed in writing by the service or health practitioner.
3. An appointment at a Queensland Hospital and Health Service, confirmed in writing by the service.
4. A confirmation form approved by the Chief Health Officer for an appointment with a prescribed health practitioner.
5. An appointment at an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Service with a written confirmation by the service.

Admit into a hospital or any other facility, and you can quarantine at the facility.

However, you will have to quarantine in a government-arranged accommodation at your own expense if you did not come with an appointment.

What are the COVID-19 legal obligations now?

Random checks from the Police Service will happen continuously from entry points to the State, including roads and airports. If anyone gives the wrong information, he/she will have to face penalties.
